The engine is misfiring on several cylinders at random, often from worn spark plugs, bad ignition coils or a vacuum leak.
The catalytic converter isn’t cleaning the exhaust as well as it should, usually because it’s worn out
The engine is getting too much air for the fuel, usually because of a vacuum leak or a dirty air intake sensor.
The turbo isn’t producing enough boost, typically from a boost leak or a sticking wastegate.
The sensor on the intake flaps reports an out-of-range position, a well-known problem on VW Group diesels.
The crankshaft and camshaft are out of sync, often a sign of a stretched timing chain.
The intake camshaft timing is more advanced than the engine computer asked for, usually from low or dirty oil or a faulty timing control valve.
The engine is getting too much air for the fuel, usually because of a vacuum leak or a dirty air intake sensor.

Unverified. This is a brand-specific code (any code starting P1), so its meaning depends on the make, and I won’t guess.

For most Audi owners, a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner paired with an app like Carista beats a standalone code reader: it reads and clears fault codes, streams live engine, transmission and turbo data, runs service tools like service indicator reset, battery registration and throttle body adaptation, and adds customization options a basic reader can’t touch — all through the phone you already have.
Carista supports 37 Audi model lines, including the A1 through A8, Q2 through Q8, S and RS models, TT, R8 and e-tron models. Exact feature coverage varies by generation and region.
Battery registration is one of Carista’s service tools for Audi. Many Audi owners search for it as battery coding or a battery adaptation: after you fit a new battery, registering it lets the car’s power management adjust charging for the new battery, a step garages and dealers commonly charge extra for.
VCDS is a deep, long-established diagnostic tool for Volkswagen Group cars and ODIS is the dealer-level software, and both reach further into module-level coding than Carista, but they need a Windows PC and a dedicated interface. Carista covers the diagnostics, live data, service tools and customization most owners actually use, from a phone, without complicated setup.
Audi dealerships typically charge a huge diagnostic fee before any repair is quoted, and services like battery registration or a service reset are often billed on top. Carista’s scanner works on any Audi you own, with a free plan for basic diagnostics and PRO for full coding and service tools.
