C1768: OBD-II code C1768 flags a fault in the 5 V reference supply shared by the ride-height sensors — one or more sensors can't power up properly.

MediumChassisAir Suspension

Symptoms

  • The 'Service Ride Control' warning is displayed and levelling is disabled at one or more corners simultaneously.
  • Multiple position-sensor codes (C1760-C1763) may set together because they all lose their reference supply.
  • The vehicle may sit at random or default heights, with no self-levelling behaviour.

Common causes

  • A short-to-ground on the shared 5 V reference wire, often caused by a failed sensor pulling the reference down.
  • An overload on the reference line from a short-to-battery on a downstream sensor circuit.
  • A failed suspension control module 5 V reference driver that can no longer supply the correct voltage to all sensors.

What to do?

Disconnect each ride-height sensor one at a time while monitoring the reference voltage — if voltage returns when a specific sensor is unplugged, that sensor has shorted internally. Repair wiring shorts. If no downstream sensor is at fault, the suspension control module reference driver has failed and the module needs replacement.
