I have no fault codes shown on my dashboard on my VW Transporter yet, but the Carista Evo did find some hidden fault codes, though nothing to worry about; it also found fault codes on my 2015 Ford Focus and removed them, and I bought the Evo for future diagnostics. My main concern is the returns process. CARISTA advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee on its website, but in my experience, obtaining a refund when buying directly from CARISTA has been far more difficult than expected. Buying through Amazon or eBay may offer a different and potentially simpler return process under their respective policies.

I purchased the CARISTA EVO with the Pro subscription for use with a Renault Kadjar. In my case, I found virtually no useful customisation options available. I couldn’t even find the oil-service reset functionality I expected, let alone the ability to reset or access some of the other vehicle modules I wanted to work with.

The biggest problem came when I decided that the product wasn’t suitable for my needs and tried to return it within the initial 14-day period.

CARISTA’s reason for disputing the refund was what they described as “extensive use of the app.”

This is where I think potential buyers need to be particularly careful. During my evaluation, I naturally had to connect the adapter and scan the vehicle to find out what the product could actually do. The app then assigns a supposed monetary “saving” to certain operations, based on what CARISTA estimates similar work might cost at a dealership. In my opinion, this does not accurately represent the actual benefit received from using the product.

Running diagnostic scans to evaluate an OBD tool is very different from actually saving the displayed amount of money—particularly when the tool cannot perform the functions you bought it for, such as clearing the relevant faults, accessing/resetting certain modules, activating desired features or, in my case, providing the service-reset functionality I expected.

My advice to Renault Kadjar owners considering CARISTA is therefore to check the exact supported functions for your particular model, year and configuration very carefully before purchasing. Don’t assume that because your vehicle is listed as compatible, all the diagnostic, reset and customisation functions you expect will necessarily be available.

Based solely on my own experience with the CARISTA EVO Pro and Renault Kadjar, I cannot recommend it.

If you nevertheless decide to try it, I would also recommend reading the refund conditions very carefully and keeping a record of your purchase date, delivery date and any correspondence if you decide to return it.

For me, the product did not provide the functionality I expected, and trying to exercise the advertised money-back option has been considerably more difficult than I believe it should be.
