Symptoms

• Higher engine RPM than normal at cruise for a given road speed — tachometer stays elevated in top gear.
• Transmission fluid may overheat from excessive slip, potentially damaging clutches long-term.

Common causes

• A failed TCC solenoid inside the valve body — the most common cause of this code.
• Contaminated transmission fluid or a worn valve body causing sticking solenoid operation.
• A worn torque converter itself, particularly on high-mileage vehicles with poor fluid maintenance.
