P0447: OBD-II code P0447 flags an open circuit at the EVAP vent control valve — the PCM commanded the vent valve but no current is flowing through the solenoid.

LowPowertrainEmissions

Symptoms

  • Check engine light is on; the engine drives normally with no drivability symptoms.
  • The EVAP self-test cannot complete because the vent valve won't seal the tank for pressure testing.
  • The vehicle will fail an OBD-II emissions inspection until the EVAP monitor runs clean.

Common causes

  • A failed vent valve with an open internal coil, common after years of exposure under the vehicle.
  • An unplugged connector at the vent valve or a broken control wire, often near the charcoal canister.
  • A blown fuse feeding the vent valve or a corroded connector from road spray and debris.

What to do?

Locate the vent valve near the charcoal canister. Verify connector is fully seated. Measure coil resistance; infinite means an open coil. Check for power at the valve when commanded. Replace the vent valve or repair wiring as needed.
