C1296: OBD-II code C1296 flags a fault in the brake fluid pressure sensor circuit — a companion to C1292 that indicates an electrical (not just plausibility) issue.

MediumChassisBrake System

Symptoms

  • ABS, traction control, and stability control lamps illuminate together and remain on continuously after start.
  • Stability control and brake-assist interventions may be disabled because the EBCM cannot read valid pressure data.
  • Standard hydraulic braking is unaffected; only the electronic pressure sensing path is compromised.

Common causes

  • An electrically open or shorted brake pressure sensor with no valid output signal reaching the EBCM.
  • Damaged sensor wiring or a corroded connector between the pressure sensor and the EBCM.
  • A failed EBCM sensor input driver that no longer processes the pressure signal correctly.

What to do?

Check sensor power and ground with a DMM. Read live pressure data — it should read near zero at rest and rise smoothly with pedal application. Inspect wiring and connector for damage. Replace the sensor if the signal is open or shorted, and bleed the brake system afterwards.
