C1295: OBD-II code C1295 flags a brake lamp switch circuit that is always open — the EBCM never sees the brake applied, even during hard braking.

HighChassisBrake System

Symptoms

  • Brake lights fail to illuminate when the pedal is pressed, creating a visible safety issue behind the vehicle.
  • Cruise control will not disengage when the driver presses the brake pedal, which is a genuine safety concern.
  • Traction control, brake assist, and stability control may operate incorrectly because the EBCM cannot detect brake application.

Common causes

  • A failed brake lamp switch with permanently open contacts, or a blown fuse feeding the brake switch circuit.
  • An unplugged or damaged connector at the brake pedal switch.
  • A misadjusted brake switch that the plunger no longer engages when the pedal is pressed.

What to do?

Verify the brake lamp fuse is intact. Test brake lamp switch continuity and voltage with the pedal pressed — the switch must close cleanly. Adjust or replace the switch. If wiring is at fault, repair the harness and reclip the connector.
