C1276: OBD-II code C1276 flags a fault in the delivered-torque signal from the PCM to the EBCM — traction control cannot verify what torque the engine actually produces.

MediumChassisTraction Control

Symptoms

  • ABS and traction control warning lamps illuminate; the code often appears alongside PCM communication codes.
  • Traction control interventions are disabled or degraded because the EBCM has no reliable actual-torque feedback.
  • Normal driving is largely unaffected, but hard acceleration on slippery surfaces may lose the smoothness of traction control.

Common causes

  • A serial data communication fault (CAN or Class 2) between the PCM and the EBCM, preventing torque messages from being received.
  • A PCM internal fault preventing valid actual-torque calculation, often paired with a PCM performance code.
  • Damaged bus wiring, a bad splice, or another failed module on the bus disrupting the shared communication network.

What to do?

Scan every module for related U-codes and PCM performance codes — fix those first. Check the serial data bus for correct resistance and no shorts to ground or voltage. Address PCM issues, then clear C1276 and retest traction-control operation.
