C1292: OBD-II code C1292 flags a fault in the brake fluid pressure sensor circuit — the EBCM sees an implausible or out-of-range pressure reading.

MediumChassisBrake System

Symptoms

  • ABS, traction control, and stability control lamps illuminate together and remain on continuously after start.
  • Stability control and brake-assist interventions may be disabled because the EBCM cannot trust the master cylinder pressure signal.
  • Standard hydraulic braking is unaffected; the fault is limited to electronic pressure sensing.

Common causes

  • A failed brake pressure sensor (usually mounted in the master cylinder or BPMV) reading open, shorted, or stuck at a fixed value.
  • Damaged sensor wiring or a corroded connector between the pressure sensor and the EBCM.
  • Contaminated or degraded brake fluid corroding the sensor element and causing drift beyond spec.

What to do?

Read live brake pressure data with the pedal released — it should read near zero, and rise smoothly with pedal application. Inspect sensor wiring and connector for damage. Replace the sensor if it reads stuck or out of range; bleed the brake system afterwards.
