P0522: OBD-II code P0522 flags a low-voltage signal from the oil pressure sensor — the PCM sees pressure well below normal, which may or may not be real.

HighPowertrainEngine/Powertrain

Symptoms

  • Check engine light is on and the low-oil-pressure warning lamp may be illuminated.
  • Engine may make ticking (top-end) or knocking (bottom-end) noises if pressure is genuinely low.
  • In severe genuine-low-pressure cases the vehicle may enter reduced-power protection mode.

Common causes

  • A failed oil pressure sensor stuck at low voltage or shorted internally.
  • Actual low oil pressure from low oil level, a worn oil pump, or engine bearing wear — verify with a mechanical gauge!
  • A shorted-to-ground signal wire between the sensor and the PCM.

What to do?

**Verify real oil pressure with a mechanical gauge FIRST.** If actual pressure is truly low, do not drive the vehicle — engine damage is imminent. If mechanical pressure is normal, replace the electronic sensor and check the signal wire for shorts to ground.
