WHAT IS SFD2?
Your new car locked its own settings. Here's why.
SFD2 (Schutz Fahrzeug Diagnose 2) is the security system Volkswagen Group fitted to its newest cars. It blocks coding and adaptations unless the tool making the change is authenticated live with VW's servers — every request checked, every change logged. Reading and clearing fault codes still works as normal. Customizing does not.

Cloud-based, token-controlled access. Without an authenticated connection, the car refuses the change.
Why other tools hit a wall

How do I know if my car has SFD2?
Most 2024+ VW Group models use SFD2 — including the Golf 8, ID. family, Audi A3, Škoda Octavia and SEAT Leon. Use the compatibility check above, or connect Carista and the app will tell you instantly.
Is it safe? Will it damage my car?
Carista works through VW Group's official authentication, not a bypass. Safety-critical systems such as brakes, ADAS and powertrain stay protected, and any change can be reverted in the app.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. SFD2 requires live authentication, so your phone needs mobile data or Wi-Fi while you customize. Everything happens in the background.
Does it also work on older SFD (2020–2023) cars?
Yes. Carista already supports first-generation SFD unlock, and works on non-protected cars across 34+ brands.
Will customizing affect my warranty?
No, using the Carista APP & Scanners will not void your warranty.
What do I need to get started?
