P0132: OBD-II code P0132 means the upstream oxygen sensor on bank 1 is reading persistently high voltage — usually a real rich condition or a shorted sensor.

Symptoms

• Check engine light is on; the engine runs rich with black smoke, rough idle, and a raw fuel smell from the exhaust.
• Fuel economy drops noticeably and the catalytic converter may overheat if the rich condition persists.
• The engine may misfire, foul spark plugs, and eventually damage the catalyst if the fault isn't corrected.

Common causes

• A failed O2 sensor with an internally shorted signal element, pinned high.
• A stuck-open fuel injector or a leaking fuel pressure regulator causing a genuine rich condition.
• A short-to-voltage on the O2 sensor signal wire somewhere between the sensor and the PCM.

What to do?

Read live O2 voltage — if pinned around 0.9 V regardless of throttle, the sensor is either bad or a rich condition is real. Check fuel trims (Long-Term should not sit at −20% or more). Unplug the sensor and confirm the signal goes to 0.45 V reference. Replace the sensor or find the source of the extra fuel.
