P0341: OBD-II code P0341 means the camshaft position sensor signal is present but implausible — the pattern doesn't match the expected engine phase.

MediumPowertrainEngine/Powertrain

Symptoms

  • Check engine light is on; the engine may run rough, hesitate, or have hard-starting issues.
  • Occasional stalls or extended cranking, particularly when the engine is warm.
  • Reduced power because the PCM uses fallback timing when cam data doesn't correlate to crank position.

Common causes

  • A worn or damaged reluctor wheel or tone ring on the camshaft producing missing or extra pulses.
  • A stretched timing chain or worn tensioner allowing the camshaft to shift phase during operation.
  • A degrading cam sensor with intermittent noise or dropouts on its signal wire.

What to do?

Compare cam vs crank position in live data during cranking and at idle. Any phase error beyond a few degrees indicates a mechanical issue (chain, phaser, or tone ring). If phase is stable but the signal is noisy, replace the sensor. Address timing chain wear if stretch is confirmed.
