How to Unlock SFD Settings: A Comprehensive Guide

How to Unlock SFD Settings: A Comprehensive Guide

The Volkswagen Group has introduced a security feature known as SFD (Schutz Fahrzeug Diagnose or Vehicle Diagnostics Protection). This feature is designed to protect the vehicle’s control units from unauthorized access and tampering. While it adds a layer of security, it also complicates the process for independent workshops and DIY. Carista is an official third-party diagnostic tool that unlocks SFD protection for specific 2020+ VW, Audi, SEAT, and Skoda models.

Understanding SFD

SFD was introduced to prevent unauthorized access to the vehicle’s control units, critical for maintaining the vehicle’s safety, security, and performance. By implementing SFD, the VW Group ensures that only trained professionals can make significant changes, reducing the risk of improper modifications that could compromise vehicle integrity.

Tools and Equipment Needed

• Carista EVO OBD-II Diagnostic Tool: Our advanced EVO scanner is a licensed VW Group diagnostic tool to unlock SFD settings.

• Carista Diagnostic Software: Ensure you have access to licensed diagnostic software. Upgrade to the latest 8.5 version of the Carista OBD2 app in the App Store and Google Play.

• Active Carista Subscription: The SFD unlock feature is a premium service and requires an active subscription.

• Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is required to communicate with the VW Group’s servers for authorization.

*Unlocking the SFD protection in your vehicle with Carista is a straightforward process that requires a few key steps. In compliance with the VW Group partnership, you need to install 2FA (Two-factor authentication) on your phone. This provides extra security and protects your data.

If you have downloaded Google Authenticator, open the app and choose "Add a code".

• Return to your Carista App and copy the code it provides by tapping the "Copy Code" button.

• Enter the Setup Key in Google Authenticator:

• Open the Google Authenticator app, and choose "Enter a setup key".

• Ensure you copy and paste the code within 30 seconds to avoid expiration.
