C1788: OBD-II code C1788 flags the damper control relay coil shorted to battery voltage — the relay is stuck energised, keeping damper power live continuously.

MediumChassisICCS2 Damper Control

Symptoms

  • The 'Service Ride Control' warning is displayed and the ICCS2 module disables adaptive damping as a safety fallback.
  • The damper power feed relay stays closed with ignition on and off, which can drain the battery over time.
  • The suspension behaves as a passive system despite the relay staying energised because the module refuses to drive the actuators.

Common causes

  • A chafed relay control wire touching a battery-voltage source, holding the relay energised regardless of the module's command.
  • An internally shorted relay coil pulling the control line to B+.
  • A failed ICCS2 module driver stuck in the on state, feeding continuous voltage to the relay coil.

What to do?

Disconnect the damper control relay and verify no B+ voltage on the coil control wire with the relay unplugged. Measure the relay coil resistance. Repair chafed wiring or replace the relay. If wiring and relay are good, the ICCS2 module driver has failed and the module needs replacement.
