P0449: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit
LowPowertrainEmissions
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Hissing sound from fuel tank area after fill-up
- Possible difficulty filling the tank
- Faint fuel odor
Common causes
- Failed canister vent valve solenoid
- Corroded or damaged wiring/connector at the vent valve
- Open or short in the control circuit
- PCM control issue (rare)
What to do?
The vent valve usually sits near the charcoal canister, often under the vehicle and exposed to weather. Inspect its connector for corrosion - this is a very common cause. Test the solenoid for resistance and command it on/off with a scan tool. Replace if it fails to actuate.
