P0441: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Incorrect Purge Flow

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Slight rough running at idle in some cases
  • Usually no impact on driving

Common causes

  • Stuck-open or stuck-closed purge valve
  • Blocked or kinked EVAP hose
  • Faulty canister vent valve
  • Failing fuel tank pressure sensor

What to do?

Test the purge valve by applying vacuum - it should hold when closed and release when commanded open. Inspect the hose from the purge valve to the intake for kinks or blockage. If valves test fine, check the EVAP system for leaks with a smoke test.
