P0444: OBD-II code P0444 flags an open circuit at the EVAP purge control valve — the PCM commanded the valve but no current is flowing through the solenoid.

LowPowertrainEmissions

Symptoms

  • Check engine light is on; the engine typically drives normally with no drivability symptoms.
  • Fuel odour around the vehicle if the purge cycle stops working entirely and vapours build up in the canister.
  • The vehicle will fail an OBD-II emissions test until the EVAP monitor completes and reports ready.

Common causes

  • A failed purge control valve with an open internal coil.
  • An unplugged connector at the purge valve, or a broken control wire between the valve and the PCM.
  • A blown fuse feeding the EVAP purge circuit, or a corroded ground on the solenoid harness.

What to do?

Verify the purge valve connector is fully seated. Measure the coil resistance (should be 20-30 Ω); infinite means an open coil. Check for power at the valve when the PCM commands it. Replace the valve or repair wiring as needed.
