C1211: OBD-II code C1211 signals an ABS indicator lamp circuit malfunction — the warning bulb, cluster driver, or wiring between the EBCM and the cluster has failed.

MediumChassisAnti-Lock Brakes (ABS)

Symptoms

  • The ABS warning lamp on the dashboard stays on continuously, stays off during a normal bulb check, or flashes abnormally.
  • Anti-lock braking is disabled while the fault is active, and the traction and stability control lamps may also illuminate together.
  • Standard braking still works, but the brake pedal will not pulse during a wheel-lock event because ABS interventions are unavailable.

Common causes

  • A faulty ABS warning bulb, LED, or lamp driver inside the instrument cluster is the most frequent cause of this code.
  • Damaged wiring between the EBCM and the instrument cluster, corroded connectors, or a poor chassis ground can open the lamp circuit.
  • Rarely, the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) itself has an internal lamp driver failure that keeps the indicator misbehaving.

What to do?

Use a bi-directional scan tool to command the ABS lamp on and off. If it does not respond, inspect the instrument cluster bulb or LED and the lamp control wire back to the EBCM. Verify EBCM power and ground, then look for damaged wiring or corroded pins in the ABS harness. If the lamp circuit tests good end to end, the EBCM is likely at fault and requires replacement or reprogramming with a scan tool.
