B2800: Steering Column Lock Malfunction

HighBodySecurity/Steering Lock

Symptoms

  • Steering wheel remains locked when pressing the start button
  • The car fails to turn on ignition power (No accessory/Run mode)
  • "Steering Lock Malfunction" warning on the multi-information display

Common causes

  • Failed Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) actuator motor
  • Internal circuit board failure within the steering lock module
  • Blown fuse for the steering column lock circuit

What to do?

Gently wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while pressing the engine start button to relieve pressure on the locking pin mechanism. If it stays jammed, check the ESCL fuse. If power is reaching the actuator unit but it refuses to release, the electronic steering column lock module requires physical replacement and programming.
