B1601: PATS Ignition Key Transponder Signal Incorrect

Symptoms

• Engine will not start (immobilizer active)
• Security light flashes a specific code error sequence

Common causes

• Attempting to start the car with an unprogrammed key
• Key transponder code corrupted
• Another RFID chip or key fob on the same keyring interfering with the signal

What to do?

Remove all other RFID cards, building passes, or extra car keys from the keyring and try again. If the issue remains, use an OBD2 tool with key programming capability to re-add/re-program the transponder key to the vehicle's immobilizer module.
