P0445: OBD-II code P0445 flags a shorted circuit at the EVAP purge control valve — the PCM sees excessive current flow through the solenoid drive.
LowPowertrainEmissions
Symptoms
- Check engine light is on; may occasionally blow the fuse feeding the purge valve circuit.
- The purge valve may buzz continuously or fail to modulate, causing rough idle or a small vacuum leak.
- The vehicle will fail an OBD-II emissions test until the EVAP monitor completes and reports ready.
Common causes
- A failed purge valve with an internally shorted coil pulling too much current.
- A shorted-to-ground drive wire between the PCM and the purge valve.
- A short-to-battery-voltage on the drive wire, keeping the valve energised continuously.
What to do?
Disconnect the purge valve and measure its coil resistance (20-30 Ω normal; low resistance = shorted). Check the drive wire for continuity to ground and to B+ with the connector unplugged. Replace the valve or repair wiring.
